Department activities in field training
Within the framework of the efforts made by the Department of Geology at the Faculty of Science, University of Tripoli, to implement field work programs, which is considered one of the basics of geology, and which comes within the pursuit of achieving the goals of the Department of Geology, the most important of which is the development of field geological work skills and the provision of comprehensive education in field (field) geology on the basis of excellence Research under the supervision of Messrs.:-
Mr. Dr. Osama Ahmed Helal
Dr.. Najeeb Salem bin Musa
a. Muhammad Ammar Haman (collaborator)
With the aim of enabling students to understand the foundations, rules, theories, and methodologies related to field work, the department has organized a field trip today, Friday, 13.01.2023, to the Bir Al-Ghanam-Taghma area to study the following formations:-
Bir Al-Ghanam Formation- Bu Al-Nar Formation- Al-Abraq Formation- Tikbal Formation- Khashm Al-Zarzour Formation
During the trip, students were trained in the following courses:- GE 324, GE 323, GE 321, GE 212, GE 222
On how to deal with many geological issues related to stratigraphic sequences by examining some rocky excavations in quarries and on roadsides, and the relationship of geological formations to each other, in addition to training them on how to collect field data and benefit from them in drawing the stratigraphic column and identifying rock names using manual lenses and field relationships according to the foundations Organized scientific.
Where the different stratigraphic sequences were studied and their lateral and vertical changes were identified and the importance of these sequences as reservoirs for oil, gas and water below the surface as well as the other economic importance of all these geological formations and the collection of measurements, observations and rock samples as well as the study of different rock structures and their effects and also a visit to the cave of Umm Al-Jaras near the Bu Narn Palace to learn On the different geomorphological phenomena in caves.
